Following the influx of Espanyol fans to Barcelona’s championship celebration, a heavy fine will await this club.
Barcelona sealed their championship with a 4-2 victory over Espanyol in the 34th week of La Liga. Xavi Hernandez’s team started to celebrate after the final whistle, but angry Espanyol fans stormed the field, ending this celebration.
Hundreds of Espanyol fans, who could not bear the celebration of rival players in their own stadium, invaded the field and disrupted this celebration. After the Barça players fled to the dressing room, they threw everything they had in their hands towards the entrance of the dressing room and turned the field into a scene of fighting and violence for a few minutes.
Mundo Deportivo explained the possible fine of Espanyol. The second team of the city of Barcelona will be fined and will not be able to use a part of the platforms of the RCDA stadium for a while due to the obvious violation of its fans.
According to Spanish football rules, Espanyol will be fined between 18,000 and 90,000 euros. Depending on the referee’s report and the final decision issued, a part of the stands of Espanyol’s home stadium (where the wrong fans enter the field) will be closed to fans for a game for one season.
